Preliminary Round - Orion versus Oliver

A small crowd, one of around two dozen students, had formed around one of the training fields in preparation of the first battle of the school's tournament. The tournament had been hyped up by the staff and the students were fairly excited to watch it or participate. A judge was off on the side of the field, and looked back and forth at the two battlers, ready to begin when they were prepared.


"Send out your first Pokémon." ordered the judge, a gruff man who seemed to have jaded on the excitement of battle. His tone was slightly unimpressed, his eyes dull, but he still kept to the formalities in both speech and battling customs in which the school followed. He put a hand to his salt-and-pepper beard, scratching at it absentmindedly.

Blaire stood near the small field that was where the preliminary tournament battle was to take place. There was a bench for her to sit on, but she was too excited to do so. She had been eagerly awaiting this tournament, and now that the day had arrived, she was ecstatic, though less so when she found out who her opponent would be: Dakota Walker. Ugh, the last thing she wanted to do was be anywhere near that annoying redhead, but it would be especially delicious to beat her in battle and teach her a lesson. Easier said than done, though: after watching her battle with Marina, Blaire knew that Dakota would be really difficult to best in battle, so she wasn't praying for any miracles. Besides, that wasn't now: now was a different battle, so she stood there and waited for it to begin.

Dakota seemed composed and withdrawn, almost bored, as she sat on the bench nearby. In truth, she was eager, and it could be seen in her furiously tapping foot. After seeing the brackets, she couldn't be happier. Blaire, of all people, had been decided as her opponent for the first round. What luck! Now she could assert her dominance over the bitch once and for all, and the fact that it was a public battle was even better. She had already come out as the top trainer for the past few months and had even gained a bit of notoriety. The girl was undefeated as of yet, and she intended to let that streak continue. Let's get this done with. I've a trainer to humiliate.

Oliver stood on one of the sides of the field, a Pokeball in his hand as he looked across the battlefield. He lifted his Pokeball, a small smile on his face as he heard the orders to send out his Pokemon. Never before had he been in a tournament, as his father always expected better from him. So when he had heard about the...Oh, what had they called it. The Tourney, he had quickly signed up. He was a bit disappointed he had been picked to go so soon, hoping he would of had a few more days or so to get ready but oh well. Finally, he pointed his Pokeball into the field, a smirk on his face. What Pokemon he was going to pick had proved a small issue, but he had finally picked his choice. "Go, Opal!"

With a click of the button on the Pokeball, it opened and the normal red beam shot out. Landing in the field, it disappeared to reveal a Delcatty. With a small yawn, the Delcatty opened her eyes as she flickered her gaze around the clearing. She smiled when she saw the crowd of people, and quickly stood up straight. Of course, there was a little devilish gleam in her eyes as she looked across the field, waiting for her opposite to be sent out. She was ready for a battle!

On the other side of the field was Orion. His red eyes gleamed with confidence, contrasting to that, his mouth was a straight line. As if he was thinking hard about his choice of Pokemon. Oliver's Delcatty was a normal type, so that crossed out a few of his choices. With some Pokemon, that would be foolish to use. Orion reached to his belt and plucked a small Pokeball off of the holster. With a move of confidence, the red haired trainer quickly enlarged the Pokeball and tossed it up. In the red beam of light, appeared the first combating Pokemon of Orion's team. Drapion.

"Let's show them, Drapion!"


Drapion's speed is higher then Opal's. Drapion goes first.

Orion cliched his fist, then pointed towards his opponent's Pokemon. "Alright, use Crunch, Drapion!" The Pokemon complied quickly, then lunged forward. It's pincers bit down on Opal, causing 38 damage to the Normal type Pokemon. As soon as the damage had been applied, Orion's Pokemon leaped back to the spot it was originally standing at. It's beady eyes watched the foe's Pokemon carefully, in an attempt to stay focused.

Bite deals 38 damage to Opal.

Opal's HP is down to 132.

Opal let out a sharp cry as she felt the pincers of the poison type dig into her fur, and she stumbled backwards as she was freed. Her black eyes glittered with fear, as she lashed her tail as she glanced at her mess up fur. One thing that Opal cared for the most, was her looks, so to see her fur as it was, she let out small growl. Of course, she wasn't going to let it distract her. One thing she cared about more than her looks was a good battle.

Oliver frowned as he watched the Drapion. Poison and dark type, eh? He didn't have any Pokemon good against it, so it would be a hard task trying to bring the Drapion down but he quickly brushed it off. He didn't care if he won or lost, he just wanted to have a good fight. He ran though the moves that Opal knew, before picking one. "Opal, use Ice Beam."

The Delcatty flickered her large ear at her trainer before standing up straight. She opened her mouth as she aimed at the Drapion as a blue ball started to form in front of her mouth. The air grew chilly as the ball grew in size, until it was at good size. The ball finally stopped growing, and with a hiss from Opal, a large light blue beam shot from the ball, striking Drapion.

Drapion felt the icy pain spread though his body, crying out in pain, the Pokemon leaped out of the beam. But the damage had already been done to the purple Pokemon. It's beady eyes glanced back at it's trainer for instruction. The warmth of the sun light had began to sooth the ever present pain.

Orion flinched along side of his Pokemon, understanding how painful the attack must have been. Orion made a quick decision on the next move. Knowing that at this rate, Drapion won't make it all the way to knock out Opal. It would be for the best to Make an attack that should help in the future. "Drapion! Use Toxic spikes!"

Nodding to his trainer, the poison type Pokemon whipped his beady eyes towards the foe. Rushing forward, the Pokemon laid out the spikes around the opposing side. He was haphazardly tossing them around, considering that he was a poison type, he was immune to these things.

A soft growl came from Opal as she watched the spikes fall around her, her eyes glancing at her trainer with a small look that just said 'help.' It was clear she would have to be careful about what she did now, as she would have to be wary of the spikes.

A small frown appeared on Oliver's face as he studied the spikes, before sighing. With a flicker of his dark blue hair, he raised his hand with a soft sigh. "Opal, would you kindly return the deed?" To many, it would wonder what Oliver meant, but the command rang true for the Delcatty.

A grin appeared on Opal's face as she spread her paws, her body started to glowing a purple color which was a copy of her foe's color. With a flicker of her tail over her head, purple spikes shot from the flower-shaped tuff of fur on the tip of her tail; coming out of nowhere. The spikes scattered around the Drapion, not doing any damage to the poison type, but instead waited for when Orion would have to change Pokemon. Opal grinned as the purple glow disappeared from her body, and shook her head with a small huff. She gave all new meaning to the word 'copycat.'

Orion watched Opal silently, having expected this to happen. Shoving his hands into his pockets, and leaning backwards on his heels, the trainer ordered his Pokemon's next move. "Drapion, use Crunch." His command reached the partial poison type Pokemon's attention. Swiftly, the Pokemon rushed forward and latched on to the Delcatty's Front left paw. After dealing as much damage as it could, Drapion leaped back to his trainer, ready for the next attack.

Drapion used Crunch and dealed 38 damage. Opal's Hp is now at 94

Oliver frowned, winching a bit as he saw Opal stumble backwards from the Drapion, hissing as she flickered the paw that the poison type had bit. The young trainer watched the Drapion, wondering what move to use. He knew that not many of Opal's moves would be all that helpful against the Drapion, as it was also a dark type. Hm, so far this battle wasn't exactly in his favor, but it was very early so far. "Opal, use Ice Beam again."

Gently placing her hurt paw on the ground, Opal shook her head before taking aim at the Drapion and let loose with another Ice Beam, her black eyes shining. No way were a few bites going to take her down so quickly! She was going to stand til the bitter end, mostly that she didn't want to see Milan fight... She knew that Milan would be the last Pokemon sent out by Oliver, but she was still worried. He was so young...No, she had to keep her mind set on this battle.
