Fire and Ice

With a loud, emphasized whistle, Brendan strolled into one of the Training Grounds. The battle field was rugged, rocks jutting up from the rusty-red colored dirt at odd angles, the ground giving away and rising up sharply. His team of six Pokemon trailed around him in a rag-tag group, and the room was only half-lit. Waiting rather impatiently, the red-head stared at the doorway he'd come in through.
"Where even is Duffy? I thought she'd be here by now."
Brendan moaned in annoyance, folding his arms.

Rearing on his hind legs, Ricord batted at Bocain's snout, his ringed tail flickering.
"Uuumbree."
"You look so bored!"
The Umbreon murred, dropping back onto all four paws.

"Houn."
"I'm not."
The short bark from the Houndoom came fast in response.

After a while, Diluet laid down on the dusty area outside the battle field, a small bark coming from him occasionally.
"Eyena!"
"Hey!"
He suddenly barked, lifting his head as Manue jumped down onto his shoulders.

"Sable!"
"Got ya'!"
Manue declared proudly, crawling onto Diluet's head and sitting promptly between the Mightyena's ears.

Watching the other five with amusement, Corick turned his head towards the entrance way.
I assumed our trainer had brought us here to battle-- could I be wrong?
He thought briefly, red eyes shimmering. They hadn't battled in a while-- a battle would be nice.

"DUFFY WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?"
Brendan suddenly yelled, swinging around to face the doorway.

Finally Aria could be seen walking up, letting out a mutter as she glanced at Lamya. Bahamut was once again riding in Lamya's mane with a smile on her face. "So sorry for taking so long; Bahamut didn't want to come along. I had to feed him first..." She let out a sigh as she waved at Lamya to follow her as she moved toward the other side of the training ground, before coming to a stop.

Lamya stopped not far from Aria, glaring sideways at Bahamut as she pointed toward the grounds. "Zoroark! Zoro!"
'We are here! Now down!'

The Deino frowned as moved around in the Zoroark's mane before finally hopping down, stumbling a bit as his legs suddenly hit the solid surface. He raised his head, facing sightly in Lamya's general driction as he grinned. "De-Deino!"
"That was fun!"

Lamya just let out a snort and rolled her eyes as Aria glanced at them, before looking at Brendan. "Now, are we going to get this show on the road? My team has been inching to battle!"

Sunny followed soon after, settling down to watch from the sidelines. Biting her lower lip, she studied both teams with interest, even if Aria had only two Pokemon out. Brendan's got an all dark-type team. Sure, they have secondary types, but Aria is much more balanced. Still, his team is strong. This should prove very interesting. She definitely wanted to watch this, having decided that she might as well cheer for both of her friends.

Ninetales watched also, her tails flicking each in their own direction. She had practically grown up with Bocain, so she wanted to see how he battled with Pokemon other than herself; maybe learn a few weaknesses to take advantage of.

About to reply to Aria with a nod an an enthusiastic yes, Brendan watched Sunny walk in and sit down on the sidelines. Waving to her, Brendan focused his attention back on Aria.
"Alright, let's go! Show 'em your firey spirit!"
The red-head yelled, and on subtle command, Bocain leaped forward and took his place on the field.

Tail lashing, Bocain growled low and deep as he waited to see who he was up against.
"I'm-- we're --winning this for Brendan. We have to."
The growl said.

Aria nodded with a smile as she pulled out her Pokeball, clicking the button in the middle as it grew in her hand. "Let's do this." The fact that Brendan had sent out his Houndoom first was perfect; mostly because of what Pokemon she had been planning to use. With a smirk, she threw the ball into the middle of the clearing. "Go Tory."

As the ball spun thought the air, it opened up and a red beam shot out and stuck the ground. It quickly disappeared and in the place of it stood Tory, who let out a small growl. "Swamp..."

Bocain moves first.

Brendan and Bocain both looked hideously taken aback. There was fear somewhere in the back of both their eyes, and Brendan clenched his fists.
"OK, we can do this..."
Brendan hissed, then raised his voice.
"Alright, Bocain, Faint Attack now!"
The red-head called.

With a nodding bark, Bocain leaped forward. Landing close to the Swampert, he gave a dog-ish smirked and raised his head up. A blobby, black-purple mass formed at the opening of his mouth. Snapping his neck back down, the Houndoom let out the blast of darkness against the Swampert's face, a howl buried beneath the attack.

Tory let out a roar as he felt Bocain's attack against him, stumbling backwards as he shook his head. He glanced at his trainer, waiting for an order.

Aria frowned, watching Bocain and Brendan. Bocain was Brendan's main Pokemon and thus one of his strongest. Luckily Tory was part water type, so Bocain wasn't as much as a threat as he could be. It was best that she got Bocain out of the way while she could. "Tory. Hydro Cannon."

The Swampert narrowed his eyes, clearly not very pleased with using his best attack so early, but he opened his mouth and started to focus. A blue ball appeared out of thin appear infront of Tory's mouth as he aimed at the Houndoom; the ball growing bigger by the second. Soon it was about the size of Tory's head, and it was time for firing. The orb suddenly glowed as water suddenly shot forward into a large beam, heading straight for the Houndoom without any mercy or signs of slowing down.

The Houndoom had bravely held his ground, not even looking scared at the orb of water sloshing mid-air. Straightening up as he waited for the attack to fire, Bocain narrowed his eyes. Watching the mass glow and fire towards him, The large Pokemon closed his eyes. A roaring howl split the air as the water blasted over him. Thrown backwards, the black dog-Pokemon hit the ground and skid. Closing his eyes, he shuddered. The dust cleared, and the Pokemon remained grounded. Then his eyes flashed open.
Not...not done yet.
Bocain thought desperately, forcing himself to his paws. With a the best roar he could manage, he stared ahead.

Amazed, Brendan pulled out the Pokeball of Bocain.
"Bocain... came on back."
He called, wincing as the red beam that was his Houndoom retreated into the Pokeball, which went into his satchel.
Glancing at Ricord, Brendan nodded and thrust his arm forward. Barking merrily, the Umbreon leaped into play.

Tory just smiled as he saw the damage he had dealt to Bocain. The Houndoom was strong thought and the Swampert knew he would recover in no time, but it was still amazing to see how much damage he had just caused. Of course, he didn't dare move. His whole body shivered as he still attempted to draw his energy back from from that Hydro Cannon. However, his gaze didn't waver as he waited for Ricord to make a move...Just...Waiting.

Aria however, flinched when she saw the damaged Houndoom. Perhaps she had started out a big to strong, but this was a battle after all. When she saw Ricord come out, she frowned. Now this was where it was going to be hard. She knew all of Brendan's Pokemon, and so she knew that she no longer had anything good against his Pokemon. Well, there was Bocain still she guessed, but he wouldn't take more then a hit to take down now. Now, it was a sheer battle of strength.

Sunny thought differently. Strength might play a role, but in her mind, it all came down to cunning strategy. She applauded for the fallen Houndoom, calling out a few words of encouragement before he was called back into his pokeball. "That's alright, Bocain, type advantages are difficult to get past!" She also struggled with this whenever she faced Aria. That Swampert caused a lot of problems for her darling Ninetales.

Ninetales watched Ricord take the field, silently hoping to see Tory get defeated.

Glancing Sunny's way out of the corner of his eye, Brendan smirked and lowered his head a little.
"Alright Ricord, bite him hard!"
The trainer yelled. Maybe Bite wouldn't do much, but it's not like the Swampert could either.
Perfect.

Leaping onto a rock-- one of the larger, taller ones --Ricord growled at the Swampert. Leaping from rock to rock, the Pokemon, pathetic in size comparison to the massive Troy, bore straight down from above. His sharp teeth dug into Troy's shoulder and he held on tight, rings glowing bright in the half-light.

Ricord used Bite! It did 16 damage!

Ricord: 152/152 HP
Troy: 113/143 HP

The mighty roar of Troy echoed around the clearing as he felt Ricord's teeth sink straight into his shoulder. He stumbled backwards, glaring at the Umbreon that held on right. Sure he would recover, but still it hurt.

A frown came from Aria as she watched Ricord use bite on Troy. Now Troy was down to only using two moves to their close range...Which of course, would work fine. "Troy, Aqua Tail!"

Troy let out a huff as he knocked Ricord from his shoulder as his tail started to glow a watery blue. He raced forward with a growl, and spun around; striking Ricord with his glowing tail.

Ricord landed somewhat on his feet, stumbling a bit. Shaking his head, the Umbreon blinked his eyes open to be met with a glowing tail straight against his face. Flung backward, a few feet, he tried to catch his balance, but fell and rolled a few times. Scrambling back to his paws with a furious growl.

Nodding as Ricord got up again, Brendan looked Troy up and down.
Bite did more damage than I thought. Good.
"Ricord, bite 'em again!"
The Trainer hollered, narrowing his eyes.

Springing forward, Ricord attached himself to Troy's forehead, between the crests on either side of his head.

( I thought I was using the right damage... the power for bite on Serebii's AttackDex said 25-- oh. Whoops. I was looking at the Power Points ^-^lll )

Troy let out a small growl as he winched as Ricord attached himself onto him again, shaking his head as he attempted to knock the dark type off. The Swampert gave his trainer a hurt gaze; clearly wondering what to do know.

"Ice Punch!"

"Swamp!" At the sound of Aria's command, Troy fixed his gaze on the Umbreon; giving the Moonlight Pokemon a sly, but clearly pained, smile. His hand started to glow an icy blue as he charged up his attack, and quickly threw his fist upwards into Ricord's belly.

Ricord howled with pain as he was thrown back, landing against a jagged rock face.
"Uuuuuuuuuuuumb."
He growled, forcing himself to his paws.

Blinking in surprise, Brendan watched. Waited.
Moonlight.
The thought came quick, snapping through his mind.
"Ricord, Moonlight!"
He called out to his Pokemon.

Nodding, a light glow traced from the Umbreon's eyes. White light, as if from the moon, shone down over Ricord's body.

"Hehe, clever," Aria said with a smile as she looked at Ricord and Brendan. Of course, now that Ricord was finally not clinging onto Troy, this would be the perfect time to show off Troy's final move. "Troy, how about we show them what Earth Power can do?"

"Swampert..." Troy hummed as he nodded. The Swampert took a step forward as his body started to glow a faint yellow hue. He reared onto his back legs with a roar, before bringing his front hands down at the ground as hard as he could. "Swamp!" The ground started to crack where Troy had stuck it, and the cracks; glowing the same yellow color as Troy, quickly shot along the ground toward the newly healed Umbreon.

Ricord stumbled back as the cracks neared him, trying to escape the splitting earth. Backing against a rock, he had no time to turn and try and flee. As the cracks split under him, the splitting force of the earth breaking rocketed him upward. Flipping through the air, he came back down with a crash. With a low groan, a dim light pulsated from the rings patterned around him.
And yet, he remained strong.
Shakily rising to his feet, Ricord barked over to his trainer. He wasn't going down without a fight.

"Ricord, Bite!"
The repeated call came again from Brendan. Enthusiasm pumped through him-- he was winning and losing, yet he wasn't winning or losing at all.

Troy stumbled backwards with a groan as he felt Ricord's teeth once again, ramming backwards into a rock. He shook his head, glaring at the Umbreon. No way was he going down without a fight!

A small frown came from Aria as she watched Troy. It was clear that the Swampert was almost done for. She could switch him out but...No. Troy would want to fight until the end. "Troy. Aqua Tail." She knew this would be the last move that Troy was most likely using in this battle.

Troy took a step forward with a growl, his tail glowing as he fixed his gaze on the Umbreon. Yes, it was clear that Troy was almost done for, but he was going to make this last move count. He charged forward with a cry, whacking Ricord as hard as he could with his tail before moving backwards to wait for Ricord's move.

Ricord winced, shakily keeping his balance.

"Bite, one more time!"

Of course, Bite-- Ricord could've guessed that himself. Lunging at the Swampert, he bit him one more time. Troy was done for, he knew it.

"Swamp...Pert." Troy let out a low moan as Ricord stuck once again with bite; falling forward and hitting the ground with a thud. His whole body shivered as he attempted to get up, but he was just to weak. He let out a small growl as he fainted. Troy was out.

"Zoro!" Lamya growled as she took a step forward; clearly ready to take Troy's place in the battle field, but she was stopped by Aria's hand.

"Oh no, you aren't going out there. Afraid you are sitting this battle out," Aria said with narrowed eyes, not caring about the shocked look that appeared on Lamya's face. "Come on, you know the odds in this battle isn't in your favor. You have three moves that will only deal half damage to his team, and the last one you do have that will do normal damage is bound to miss. You are sitting this one out, Lamya."

The Zoroark narrowed her eyes, but nodded as she took her place back at her trainer's side, her arms crossed as she watched Ricord.

Aria trned back toward the battle field as she pulled out Troy's Pokeball, and pointed it toward the fainted Swampert. "Return." The red beam of light shot out of the Pokeball and surrounded Troy, sucking him into the Pokeball until he could be healed. She placed Troy's Pokeball away as she grabbed a different one, letting it grow big in her hand. "Go, Taima!"

Once again the red beam shot out of the Pokeball and stuck the rocky ground; this time leaving a Luxray in its wake. The Luxray let out a yawn as she noticed where she was, before bearing her teeth at Ricord. This was going to be fun!

"Taima, use Thunder Fang!"

"Lux," Taima purred as she fixed her red and yellow eyes on Ricord, taking one step forward before dropping into a couch with a snarl. She quickly shot forward, wasting no time on attacking. As she leaped toward Ricord, her mouth started to spark as electricity started to run though her mouth. Reaching Ricord, she quickly bite down and let her built up electricity run though the Umbreon. Too easy.

A static-y screech filled the room as Ricord felt the sparking attack, electricity flowing through him. Prying Taima off him, he hit the dirt with a thud.
"Umb..."
He hissed, closing his eyes.

Squinting, Brendan reluctantly drew Ricord back into his Pokeball. Glancing down at Sableye, he nodded subtly.

Making his way onto the battlefield, Manue stared across to Taima.
"Sabe!"
He called, as if on friendly terms.

Taima grinned when she saw Ricord be returned, holding her head high as she waited for her next challenge. Spotting Manue entering the ring, she snarled happily and glared at him. Of course, when she saw him just making his way over to her as if they were meeting up for a play date or something, she quickly let out a hiss. No. No way was she going to fall for it. This was a battle, and she wasn't going easy.

Manue. Great. Aria sighed a bit when she saw the Sableye enter the field. Manue was a sweet-heart in all, but he did creep her out a bit. She shook her head with a small sigh. She had to focus..."Tamia, use Thunder Fang once again."

The Luxray glanced over at her trainer, before giving her a sly smile. "Luxray."
'I'll be happy too.'
Taima fixed her gaze on Manue once again, her mouth started to spark as she once against charged up her electricity before darting forward. Her eyes narrowed as she drew close on the Sableye and quickly locked her jaws onto him, giving the Sableye a good shake or two as she let her energy run though him, before throwing him off to the side like a toy. "Lux! Luxray!" she called after him, dropping into a couch as she waited for the Sableye to make his move.
'Come on! Don't make this easy!'

Leaping to his feet, Manue blinked.
"Sabe, Sableye!"
He called back to the Luxray.
"Easy? Funny."

Brendan nodded. Thunder Fang seemed like Taima's main attack. But he had something better.
"Manue, Shadow Claw!"
He yelled.

Manue nodded, taking a few steps back. Shadows enveloped one of his clawed hands, and with gem-eyes glowing, he sprung forward. Racing across the ground, he pushed himself up just under Taima's chin, scratching it with his shadow-swathed claws.

Taima stumbled backwards, shaking her head as she winched in pain. However, she grinned as she looked at Manue. Now this was more like it! She glanced at her trainer, wondering if she was going to use Thunder Fang again. It did seem like her best chance against Manue.

"Taima, Thunder Fang again!"

Ah, of course she had been right. She just wasn't ready to use the big guns yet. Taima raced forward, once again locking her electric jaws onto Manue before throwing him backwards.

"Shadw Claw again!"

Nodding as the purple little Pokemon caught his balance again, he straightened up. Crossing his arms in an 'X' shape, he slashed them down then ran forward. Repeating the stages of having his hand enveloped in shadows, he leaped upwards on Taima's head this time, scratching the back of her head before sliding down to rest on her shoulders.
Easy, honestly?
