POKEMON EXHIBITION BATTLE (Test+Example)

Jay grinned at his friend, a devious grin that was a borderline smirk. In his hand was a Pokeball, still small due to him not pressing the ivory colored button in the center of the sphere. He was waiting for the call. Looking up at the scoreboard to the side of the arena, Jay examined his opponent's Pokemon, blinking at the Farfetch'd. Time to put on a poker face. He didn't want to seem comfortable.
"Good luck, old friend." Jay called across the field, before a whistle sounded from the referee.


"Go Riley!" Jay called, pressing the button on his Pokeball and throwing it to the center of the battlefield. The Pokeball grew in size and burst open with an echoed popping sound. A red light zapped from the device, and out of the light formed a shape. A Raichu appeared, stern and standing its ground. "Raaaiiih!" it called in a slightly higher pitched voice, revealing the Pokemon as female.

Sleepy passed an expanded Pokeball from one hand to another, his face much more solemn than his opponent's as he stared down the Raichu. He tried to keep his worry hidden behind an emotionless mask, but it showed in his fidgety hands. He clamped his hand tight around the ball. His team had faced worse odds and won, and this wouldn't be any different.

Excalibur was already out on the battlefield, holding the green onion sprig out to its side like a sword. The Farfetch'd was giving a cold defiant glare at the Raichu, still as a statue with a reckless anger burning in its eyes.

Jay smiled. He had the type advantage, and the speed advantage, he knew this could work in his favor. He would use this turn to power up.
"Riley. Nasty Plot please." Jay called to his Pokémon. Riley grinned, almost menacingly, her teeth showing in her beaming smile. She laughed rather evilly, her eyes glowing a crimson red. She looked lost in thought, gazing at Farfetch'd and planning evil deeds against the bird.

The Farfetch'd did not seem to react to the unsettling show put on by the Raichu. It just stared coldly, awaiting orders. Sleepy spun the Pokéball around in his hands, looking unimpressed. "Excalibur, Swords Dance." Immediately as he finished the words, Excalibur begun to twirl and spin the onion around in a comically dazzling display, hopping from one foot to the other.

"Riley. Thunderbolt."
The Raichu let out a snicker, eyes still glowing, as static began to emanate from the mouse's cheeks. This seemed like a forewarning for the attack that was about to come. Riley was suddenly illuminated by electricity as a thunderbolt rushed towards the bird Pokémon on the other side of the arena at incredible speeds.

Sleepy grit his teeth and clenched his hand tight around the Pokéball in his hands as he saw the spark of electricity. "Excalibur, go!" he shouted. The Farfetch'd at once swung its sprig sword forward as the lightning shot towards him, holding out with both wings... The trainer shielded his eyes with an arm from the flash of light, feeling the air itself seem to crackle from the powerful attack.

When he dared pry his arm away, Excalibur still stood, panting lightly. The Pokémon's quaint baton and feathers were singed black, but he stood, and that's all that mattered at that moment. "Quick, now!" Sleepy barked. He had to capitalize on this small moment. "Return!"

Farfetch'd half-flew, half-ran at Riley at a seemingly supersonic speed. By the time the Raichu could have possibly realized anything, Excalibur was already on upon it, swinging the onion with all its strength across its face.

Damn it!
Return was a powerful move, and it brought Riley back staggering after the onion hit its face. Before the bird could deal another blow, Jay called,
"It is close! Thunderbolt!"
The Raichu glared into Farfetch'd eyes with menacing hatred, and its cheeks started to glow once more as lightning zapped straight towards the Pokémon that was beating the mouse with the leek. Raichu bounced back to a safe distance as the attack hit, and a smoke cloud was thrown up.

There was no dodging that. Excalibur was blown backwards from the force of the hit. Brown, white, and soot-black feathers flying up in a flurry as the Farfetch'd flew and skid backwards back towards the center of the arena. The stick was sent spinning off into the air somewhere to the side of the arena, splintered and blackened. Sleepy grit his teeth and held the Pokéball out. "Excalibur, return." A red light engulfed the unconscious Duck Pokémon, and Excalibur was eliminated from the match.

You've forced my hand. God have mercy on us all.

"Go!" Sleepy shouted. Blinding white light filled the arena, and when it faded...

"You've brought this upon yourself."

-24 damage from Life Orb.

It was best not to change something that worked.
"Another Thunderbolt! You can bring it down!" called Jay, swallowing silently at the sight of the...interesting king of the seas. Riley fired the attack at the fish, dealing the following damage,

Seaking simply sat there helplessly when he was sent out, staring vacantly with those big stupid black pits for eyes and its mouth opening and closing. It's whole body was slimy and wet, and looked foul just sitting out there in the arena. As blinding light once again filled the arena, anybody watching could see the folly of Sleepy's move. A Water-type, of all Pokémon?

"Ahahahaha..." Sleepy began to laugh, not shielding his eyes from the electrical display this time. "Ahahaha..."

The light subsided, and Seaking was unharmed. Electricity could be seen coursing through the big horn in the center of its face. Lightningrod. Nobody ever saw it coming. Seaking was immune to all Electric attacks, all of them directed towards the horn on its face. It slapped its pectoral fins uselessly against the ground, making light popping noises with its mouth. If you looked closely enough, you could see a purple life orb in its cavernous belly. A dark, pleased expression spread across Sleepy's face.

The arena, with a groan, slowly began to open up from under the fish. Crystal clear freshwater. Pokémon Battle Academy was an expensive school with expensive stadiums. If needed, the floor could open up into a pool for the various Water-types too clumsy to move on solid ground. Seaking unceremoniously plopped into the water as the floor opened up. After a moment, it was all a pool with the exception of scattered platforms floating above the water. Fancy school, fancy stadiums. Raichu could stay dry, assuming it could make the jumps between each barge.

"Seaking. Return."

The Seaking, with a speed you wouldn't expect, obediently began to rush towards Riley, smashing up through the bottom of the floor underneath the Electric Mouse, driving its blunted horn up into Raichu's stomach and shattering the impromptu boat into pieces, all seemingly within a blink of an eye.

Fuck.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck.
This was surely a predicament. Seaking was powered up by the Lightningrod, and Jay felt like an idiot for using the attack. What was worse was the attack, bringing the mouse Pokemon down.
"Return. You did well." murmured Jay with a light smile, a countenance of bittersweet emotions. He needed to bring down the Seaking immediately. Putting Riley's Pokeball into his right pocket, he reached into his left. He felt the ridges of each Pokeball until he chose the one he wanted.
"Leo. Come out." he said in a less enthusiastic voice, throwing the capture device into the air and sending out the woodland deer.


"Horn Leech!" called Jay with another point. The Sawsbuck cried out and ran towards the fish in a swift pace, horns glowing emerald as the Pokemon charged. Soon it had impacted the fish, throwing it up into the air.

Seaking had been caught amid the debris of Riley's ruined platform and could do nothing to dodge as it was smashed into by the Sawsbuck and hurled into the air. Now, Seaking were big Pokémon; four feet tall and about as half as wide and over 80 lbs. But even so, the strength of the hit was enough to send the Water-type high up in the air, tail-fin up. The fish stared down at the earth and Sawsbuck as it slowed and began to descend.

Sleepy balled his hand into a fist and made a sweeping gesture. "Now, Ice Beam!"

The Seaking fired a beam of ice from its horn as it plummeted, blasting the Sawsbuck's leafy antlers and coating them with frost. It was an orange blur as it dropped back into the pool with a loud splash, sending walls of water into the air ten feet high.

"Shake it off! Go for another Horn Leech!" called Jay, sweeping a hand quickly over his forehead. This was a mental battle. Just how much would Sawsbuck regain?

Sawsbuck waved its antlers back and forth, ridding them off the frost with the quick motion. After this, he went in for another charge, stopping at the side of the water and dipping his antlers in. The emerald light spread to Seaking, who was engulfed with it shortly. When the evanescent glow vanished, Sawsbuck was healed.

Sleepy wiped a sweaty palm on his jeans as the attack was carried out. Seaking was but a blurry orange silhouette in the pool, but he could tell that the attack would sap away the fish's strength. He couldn't take any chances here with a different move, especially with the Sawsbuck recovering its strength like that; he had to stick with what had worked before, from the relative safety of the water. "Seaking, again!"

A horn rose ominously from the water, and another Ice Beam was fired. Frost had begun to form on the surface as it shot out, slowly freezing and solidifying more and more as the temperature dropped. Hopefully that will be enough... It was hard to tell how much more the Water-type had in him.

The Sawsbuck endured much pain as the ice collided with his chest. On his fur accumulated frost, and the deer shivered with signs of pain due to the cold.
Jay breathed, his breath suddenly visible in the now frozen area. This could be the decider.
"The pond is ice! Go for it!"
And with this, the Sawsbuck half skated towards Seaking, horns down and forward in a charge. The deer lifted Seaking out of the the water with an angry howling sound, the fish nestled in its powerful antlers. With a "Swwwwwwww!," the Sawsbuck slammed Seaking down onto the ice, shattering it and absorbing the last strands of HP that remained in the Pokémon.

"Shit." Sleepy breathed as Seaking was lifted into the air. The Water-type thrashed uselessly around in the antlers as it was lifted from the water, but immediately stopped its flailing as it was smashed back into the ice. "Seaking, return!" he called out. With a beam of red light, Seaking was gone from the water.

Five to four. I need somebody decisive.

"Go, Sinatra!" he shouted as he threw the next Pokéball, a Raticate bursting out as it bounced against the ice behind the Sawsbuck. An orange orb was clenched in one of its tiny hands, cracks already beginning to spread across its class surface as the Raticate clenched tight. Soon it'd begin to burn, and then the onslaught would begin.


"Protect!" he yelled, and the small rat immediately dove to its side and into the water, heading to the very bottom of the pool.

"Synthesis."
It was all Jay could do, not that it was a bad move. Leo could maybe stick around for another turn or two. Sawsbuck's antlers glowed, this time to heal himself rather than take from others. He extended them towards the sky, and fromt he sunlight he seemed to get new energy.
